To conclude, inSSIDer is a lightweight and intuitive utility that provides the necessary tools and features to scan for neighboring Wi-Fi networks, monitor their performance and compare their signal strength thanks to the built-in graph generator. METAGEEK INSSIDER FOR MAC UPGRADEUse inSSIDer with your free MetaGeek account for real-time visualization, or upgrade to MetaGeek Plus for advanced client device analytics. ![]() The color code used by the application allows you to quickly and effortlessly identify a network and compare its signal strength with the signal of other networks. Since 2007, inSSIDer has been the leading tool for visualizing your Wi-Fi environment by analyzing channel settings, security, signal strength, and the impact of neighboring Wi-Fi networks. InSSIDer also comes with a fullscreen view that enables you to avoid distractions and focus on the real-time generated graphs. By clicking on any of the discovered networks, you can highlight the graph line and view the performance of the selected Wi-Fi signal. The 2.4 GHz and 5GHz Channels tabs help you visualize the channel used by all nearby networks. METAGEEK INSSIDER FOR MAC GENERATORThe built-in graph generator helps you track and monitor the signal strength of the selected network over a period of time. inSSIDer also feature a user-oriented interface from which you can sort the detected networks according to the Received Signal Strength, Channel used, Hardware Vendor name, Max transfer Rate, Mac Address, Network Type and Security encryption method. InSSIDer promises to help you track and monitor secure and open wireless networks and find the best channel for your own Wi-Fi network. If you are interested in nearby Wi-Fi networks and need to track their signal strength and view the number of channel used, the RSSI value, vendor, network type, security type, MAC address and max rate you might want to put inSSIDer on your wish list. METAGEEK INSSIDER FOR MAC FOR MACYou can currently refresh data in inSSIDer 5 for Mac under File > Clear Data.InSSIDer is a handy and very easy-to-use Wi-Fi scanner capable to detect and monitor the signal strength of wireless networks that can be reached by your Mac’s wireless card. MetaGeek, found in 2005, specialise in wireless spectrum to enable organisations. I imagine this feature will eventually be available in the Mac version of inSSIDer 5, should you decide to upgrade to macOS Catalina. Metageek Chanalyzer + Wi-Spy inSSIDer Office Eye P.A. The Windows version of inSSIDer has a “time-frame” option that allows you to select a designated amount of time to display network information. This might also be caused by a restriction from the WiFi scanning API provided by Apple, but I would need an engineer to confirm. ![]() As a result, it may display networks that are no longer there. I believe we designed inSSIDer this way to try and capture and maintain as much data as possible, even for distant networks. Unfortunately you must exit and re-enter the software to force a refresh. The refresh rate for InSSIDer 4 doesn’t appear to be adjustable and it still shows SSIDs minutes after the access point has been powered off. UPDATE: Our engineering team has released a new beta version of inSSIDer that appears to work with macOS 10.12 and 10.13 (Sierra and High Sierra). ![]() For previous versions of macOS, I would recommend using your copy of inSSIDer 4. Yes, inSSIDer 5 beta for Mac has only been tested on macOS Catalina. Decided to have a look at InSSIDer 5 beta on an old Macbook Air It crashes on launch so I’m guessing the minimum pre-req for MacOS is higher ? ![]()
